Tutoring [GCSE/IGCSE, A-level, IB, IELTS, English]

Moi Education’s Tutoring

Personalised study plan

Students supported by Moi Education come from all different grades, levels, and have different future paths.

We provide one-to-one tutoring, so we create a personalised study plan for each student to help them achieve their goals.

International schools and boarding schools may follow the same curriculum (GCSE/IGCSE, A-level, IB, etc.) but the progress and scope of teaching varies slightly from school to school.

For those taking English lessons, the content of the lessons will vary depending on whether the aim of improving English is to study overseas, to prepare for exams such as IELTS or Eiken, or to learn English conversation.

If you are aiming to enter an overseas university, the examination methods and measures will vary depending on whether you are applying from an overseas or international school or from a Japanese high school.

For these reasons we recommend private tutoring instead of group tutoring.

Teaching methods

Our main teaching method is online lessons, as one of our strengths is that our tutors come from top universities all over the world.

At present, face-to-face tuition is also available for some courses in central Tokyo area only, mainly for younger children of primary school age and below. Please see below for information on eligible courses.

Features of online tutoring

Tutors from top UK universities

Our tutors are currently studying at, or graduated from top overseas universities, such as Imperial College London. They have completed the curriculum themselves and have experienced the actual examination process, so you can rest assured that you are in good hands.

When you have a university student tutor on a private contract, you will eventually have to find a replacement because he/she will have to stop teaching after graduation. We all know that finding a good tutor can be a challenge.

You will never face this problem with Moi Education, as we have excellent tutors in house all the time.

Personalised lessons

Because it is one-to-one tutoring, the lesson design is tailor-made to meet the student’s goals.

For families studying or planning to study overseas, apart from the tutors in charge of the classes, consultants who are familiar with the international curriculum provide career guidance and support for study from a long-term perspective. Overseas examination systems are very different from those in Japan and require long-term planning that takes into account the student’s progression to university.

One consultant will follow the student from start to finish, receiving reports on study progress from the tutor and helping the student to achieve what they really want to do.

Online makes things possible

Online makes it possible to take lessons wherever you are in the world. Whether you are studying overseas or living in Japan, you can take lessons with tutors from top overseas universities.

Visiting lessons

About visiting lessons

Face-to-face tuition is provided through home visits in the central Tokyo area only. This service is particularly popular with families with young children of primary school age and below.

English lessons for primary school children

Case study

The student started lesson when she was at nursery, and she is now in first grade. Before studying with us, she was taking group lessons at an English conversation school. Her family decided to switch to visiting lessons because they had younger kids which made it difficult to do pick-ups and drop-offs.

Since the student was young, we tried to make lessons fun at first. By singing English songs and playing cards together, we helped her learn that English can be fun.

Once the student get used to English, we start to use textbooks. Since the student had zero knowledge of English, we started by having her memorise the sounds of the alphabet using phonics. After studying new topics through text, we repeated the process of outputting them through games on a special app, and within a year we were able to read the alphabet and short words.

The teacher at the previous English class was a foreigner and could not speak Japanese, so it was difficult for her to understand. All of Moi Education’s tutors are bilingual, so even those who are new to English can use our services with confidence.

Maths lessons for primary school children

Case study

This is a 5th grade student attending a private elementary school in Tokyo. His older sister is studying in the UK, and he goes to a summer school every year. Although he has excellent grades in Mathematics, he sometimes doesn’t feel satisfied with Japanese-style classes. We have been asked if we could provide tuition that is more international.

We use Year 6 Maths textbooks which is equivalent to 5th grade elementary school level in Japan. We aim to develp his English at the same time as his Maths knowlege. Also, approaching the same problem in a different way lead to new discoveries, which can be fun for the students.

For those who are planning to study overseas, we will provide guidance on everything from memorising technical terms in English, to international ways of thinking.
